Hi! My name is Jenna Stevens! I am a Chemistry major in the Honors College and a rising sophomore.
This summer, I’m working at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, doing research in their Chemical Upcycling of Waste Plastics REU program.
The primary focus of the research project is separating ammonia into nitrogen and hydrogen electrochemically, resulting in reactions that produce hydrogen and nitrogen. This process is important because if we can find a clean way to produce hydrogen, it may eventually replace carbon as our global power source (think hydrogen cars, etc.). I’ll also create a poster about this project, which I’ll present on the last day of the program.
My favorite thing about UMBC has been the people I’ve met while attending; I’ve made some great friends so far! The Honors College has also helped me with that, primarily through the Honors College Living Learning Community, where I met all three of my roommates I’ll be living with during my sophomore year.
