Boren Scholarship for Study Abroad!
Hi Honors College Students!
The Boren Scholarship for Study Abroad, an initiative of the Defense Language and National Security Education Office, funds U.S. citizen undergraduates to study languages and cultures deemed critical to U.S. national security. Awards of up to $25,000 are available for programs lasting six months or longer. STEM students are eligible to apply for summer language study awards of up to $8000.
Students can apply this money to study critical languages throughout the world for summer, semester and academic year programs. Special programs include the South Asian Flagship Language Initiative for the study of Hindi/Urdu, the Turkish Flagship Language Initiative, the African Languages Flagship Initiative for study of the languages of sub-Saharan Africa, including advanced-level French, as well as the Indonesian Flagship Language Initiative.
