Favorite thing about UMBC: The amount of diversity within the student body. I have met people from all walks of life, cultures, and countries and it has really enhanced my undergraduate experience. I would also have to say that UMBC is an institution with a strong focus on research. This provides a stimulating academic environment in which students are not just learning about their field of study but have the option to be actively involved in contributing to knowledge in that field.

Favorite thing about the Honors College: There is an extensive network of students, faculty, and alumni and a strong sense of community within the honors college.

Favorite Honors College memory: It is difficult to pinpoint one memory, but I would have to say the most memorable times I have had in the honors college have been spent in the lounge. There is always a random mix of students, faculty, and staff, which tends to lead to interesting interactions.

Favorite Honors College Class: ‘Stress testing the U.S,’ taught by Dr. Short. The course content was focused on modern issues such as Hurricane Katrina and economic issues in America, which allowed for a lot of in class discussion.

Favorite Honors College Professor: I think it would be too hard to pick one professor in particular, but I have really enjoyed having the opportunity to be taught by so many different professors with such varied backgrounds.

Advice that you would give to incoming Honors College Students: Being an honors college scholar provides you with the opportunity to take classes outside of your major. Use this opportunity to your advantage. You never know how this knowledge will benefit you in the future.

Also, do not be afraid to take risks. Being an undergraduate provides an amazing opportunity to try new things and explore your surroundings. If there is anything that you have always wanted to try just go for it!
